This footage purports to show Russian fighter planes attacking targets in Ukraine. The footage allegedly shows Russian military aircraft being loaded with ammo before a pilot can be seen getting into the cockpit and taking to the skies along with a wingman in another aircraft. Four planes can at one point be seen flying over countryside. The footage then shows an aircraft's targeting system, with ordnance apparently being fired. The plane can then apparently be seen landing back at base as the footage ends. The images were obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Tuesday, 31st August, along with a short statement claiming that the images show "combat sorties by pilots of Su-25 attack aircraft of the Eastern Military District." The Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot remains the mainstay of Russian shturmovoy (ground-attack) regiments. The type is broadly analogous to the US A-10 but has been matured into a more sophisticated warplane. The T-8 prototype made its first flight on 22 February 1975, but type was comprehensively redesigned before series production was authorised. Su-25s flew some 60 000 combat sorties in Afghanistan and this experience led to a range of modifications applied to production aircraft from 1987. Su-25s were also heavily committed to support Russian interventions in Chechnya. The need for an all-weather and night capable Su-25 with increased range/endurance and survivability led to the Su-25T. This is based on the airframe of the Su-25UB two-seat trainer version with the humped rear cockpit faired over. An early batch of 20 Su-25Ts was built during 1990-1991 in Tbilisi (Georgia). Production was subsequently transferred to Ulan-Ude (Russia). The first Russian-built Su-25T flew in 1995; the variant has since been redesignated Su-25TM or Su-39. Unusually, the TM carries its Kopyo-25 radar externally in a pod under the fuselage. The 20 Georgian-built Su-25Ts have been upgraded at Ulan-Ude to Su-25TMs. Su-25UBs are similarly being upgraded as Su-25UBMs. The Russian Air Force currently operates about 250 Su-25s and is upgrading around 80 to Su-25SM standard using some of the systems developed for the Su-25TM. These will have nose-mounted Kopyo radars. The Su-25SM3 Grach is the latest version. First upgraded aircraft were delivered in 2013. The Su-25 will reportedly play a major role in the rapid-deployments groups that are being formed in each of the Russian Federation's six military districts. The units will have four Su-25TMs and 12 Su-25SMs. The Su-25TM is offered for export as the Su-25TK. Many former Soviet republics gained the Su-25 regiments stationed on their territory on break up of the Soviet Union. Such operators comprise Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Georgia (Abkhazia), Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan (in storage) and Uzbekistan. Russian Sukhoi Su-25 aircraft safely lands after being hit by Ukrainian MANPADS - The Russian Ministry of Defence released footage early on March 14, 2022, demonstrating once again how tough the Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot can be. The clip illustrates the plane taxiing with considerable damage to the rear right hand side of the fuselage allegedly caused by a MANPADS or Man Portable Air Defence System. In regard to the case, it can be seen that the incident demonstrates two crucial aspects one is the threat posed by MANPADS operated by the Ukrainian forces to all Russian aircraft operating at medium and low altitudes, and the second one is the damage tolerance of the Su-25. One is the America’s A10 Thunderbolt, known as warthog, and other SU25 also known as Frog-foot. Both aircraft were designed for the sole purpose of dedicated close air support. These tank busters remined highly effective in various battlefields since their inception. Today we’ll be pitting America’s A10 warthog against SU25 frog-foot in this video and try to determine which aircraft is better. 1. Overview SU25 is quite a bit smaller than the A10, but has a top speed of 606mph - that is over 167mph faster than the A10. Both aircraft can carry wide array of bombs, rockets, missiles, pods and fuel tanks under their wings, but A10 can take-off with almost 7,451Ib more weapons load than its equivalent. The 30mm cannon on SU25 is significantly less impressive due to limited rounds than A10, but it still packs a killer punch. SU25 is smaller and faster, making it more difficult target. Both aircraft are heavily armored and considered safest and most feared close air support jets in the world. 2. Performance A10 is powered by 2 turbofan engines generating 18,130 pounds of thrust combined. The engines allow the aircraft to reach at maximum speed of 439mph. With ferry range of 2,580mi, the aircraft has combat radius of 290mi. A10 weighs around 24,959Ib and can take-off with maximum weight of 50,000Ib. With climb rate of 6,000ft/min, the aircraft can reach at maximum altitude of 45,000ft. On the other hand, major driver of SU25 performance is its two engines. The engines are capable of generating around 19,860 pounds of thrust. These are meant to drive the jet to maximum speed of 606mph. With the maximum range of 620mi, the aircraft can combat within the radius of 470mi. The frog-foot weighs around 21,605Ib and can take-off with maximum weight of 42,549Ib. With climb rate of 11,400 ft/min, the jet can reach at maximum altitude of 23,000ft. 3. Armor & Survivability Survivability is an essential attribute of any successful ground attack aircraft. A10 excels in this category due to its heavy armor. For example, the engines are located a bit higher on the rear fuselage… In contrast SU25 is comparatively smaller and faster jet, which makes it a difficult target from ground fire, however it is less of a problem for guided missiles. Frog-foot is able to reach supersonic speeds when flown clean, the airframe can withstand 6.5 Gs… 4. Radar & Avionics A10 is equipped with improved communications, inertial navigation systems, night vision, fire control, weapons delivery systems and target penetration aids. The head-up display indicates air speed, altitude and dive angle on the windscreen. In terms of pods the aircraft has infrared and optical systems for both day & night time operations… 5. Firepower The A10 has 11 hardpoints including 8 pylon stations under both wings, while remining 3 are fitted under the fuselage with a total payload capacity of 16,000 lb. A10 can carry up to 10 Maverick air-to-surface missiles… In contrast, the frog-foot is fitted with 11 hard points capable of carrying various rocket PODs, bombs and missiles. The Sukhoi Su-25 Grach (Russian: Грач (rook); NATO reporting name: Frogfoot) is a subsonic, single-seat, twin-engine jet aircraft developed in the Soviet Union by Sukhoi. It was designed to provide close air support for Soviet Ground Forces. The first prototype made its maiden flight on 22 February 1975. After testing, the aircraft went into series production in 1978 in Tbilisi in the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic. Early variants included the Su-25UB two-seat trainer, the Su-25BM for target-towing, and the Su-25K for export customers. Some aircraft were upgraded to the Su-25SM standard in 2012. The Su-25T and the Su-25TM (also known as the Su-39) were further developments, not produced in significant numbers. Designed by Russian aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi, Su-25 is a subsonic, single-seat, twin-engine jet aircraft built mainly to provide close air support for the Soviet Ground Forces. The NATO reporting name for Su-25 is Frogfoot. Following its maiden flight on 22 February 1975, the aircraft undergone series production in 1978 at Tbilisi, Georgia. Tracing back the history of Su-25, it started with the fact that the Soviets were in a dire need of assault aircraft which is capable of providing close air support for the Soviet Ground Forces. The notion of building ground-support aircraft emerged after the experiences of ground-attack aviation during 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. At that time, some of the Soviet’s fighter bombers which were under development or already in service did not satisfy the requirements for close air support of the army. Having considered this issue, Pavel Sukhoi, an aerospace engineer and a group of specialists in the Sukhoi Design Bureau started initial design work in a relatively short period of time with the help of essential institutes of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of the Aviation Industry. Russia Launched New Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot Fighter Jet After Upgrade. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has recently upgraded its old fighter, the Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot, with a number of advanced devices. The modernized Su-25 fighter jet, known as the Su-25SM3 Grach, is equipped with a portable electronic anti-missile air defense system. The Su 25 SM 3 version experiences significant physical differences compared to the upgraded Su 25 SM because it has to carry the latest weapons and avionics systems. #su25 #sukhoi #militarynews

The Sukhoi Su-25 Grach is a subsonic, single-seat, twin-engine jet aircraft developed in the Soviet Union by Sukhoi. It was designed to provide close air support for Soviet Ground Forces. The first prototype made its maiden flight on 22 February 1975. After testing, the aircraft went into series production in 1978 in Tbilisi in the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic. Early variants included the Su-25UB two-seat trainer, the Su-25BM for target-towing, and the Su-25K for export customers. Some aircraft were upgraded to the Su-25SM standard in 2012. The Su-25T and the Su-25TM (also known as the Su-39) were further developments, not produced in significant numbers. The Su-25, and the Su-34, were the only armoured, fixed-wing aircraft in production in 2007 Su-25s are in service with Russia, other CIS members, and export customers. Production of the Su-25 ended in 2017 in Russia and 2010 in Georgia.
